On 1 April 1997 Dr. Iván Szabó became an individual member of the Budapest Bar Association as a lawyer, and founded the Dr. Szabó Iván Law Firm on 14 January 1999.
The Dr. Iván Szabó Law Firm is specialized in business law, providing services for its customers on the level of relevant international law firms.
The office has unique expertise in the field of water utility services on the Hungarian market, from August 2015 it has been a member of the World Water Council.
In 2006 legal consulting engagements appeared in the firm’s activities for water utility service companies and for the owner Municipalities, which was completed gradually by comprehensive legal advice on the field of business law, real estate law and bank financing.
The Law Firm – using its experience gained in the water utility sector – managed the full legal and financial screening of five regional water utility supply companies with majority ownership of the Hungarian State in 2010 and 2011, later provided ongoing legal advice to these companies, as well as to MNV Zrt. representing the majority owner, the Hungarian State.
In 2013, as the market-leading law firm in the water utility sector, the Dr. Iván Szabó Law Firm has successfully represented the subsidiaries of the Veolia Voda SA operating in Hungary and providing water utility services [Budapest Sewage Works Pte Ltd .; Szeged Waterworks Ltd .; Érd and Érd Region Water Utility Ltd .; Érd and Érd Region Sewer Service Ltd.], at the Hungarian Energetics and Public Utilities Regulatory Agency in the procedure of acquision of public utility services operating licenses.
The Law Firm provided legal advice in many cases for municipal water utility service companies in transition issues that require legal expertise during the recently completed and still ongoing integration process – the service providers’ concentration – in the water utility industry.
Non-profit activities:
- From February 2013 to present Dr. Ivan Szabo is member of the Board of Visszatérés Alapítvány;
- On 19 August 2011 Dr. Ivan Szabo was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic „Recognition of his work towards the development of water utility services and his publishing activities in local public utility and real estate management issues;
- Dr. Ivan Szabo has strongly contributed the activities in preparation of codex level legislation of the water utility sector before 2011, and continuous contribution as an expert in development of the necessary adjustments after the entry into force of the Act in 2011.
